The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has confirmed the death of 12 persons in a ghastly road accident on the Auchi – Abuja road on Saturday morning.
Naija Daily News gathered that the accident involved a Toyota Hilux bus and a heavy-duty truck.
It was further learnt that the accident occurred at about 5 am at Igueoviobo community near a military checkpoint on the road.
The Edo Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the accident.
He said, “The bus took off from Zuba, Federal Capital Territory, heading towards Benin but collided with a truck heading towards Auchi, killing all the occupants of the bus.
“It happened on Saturday morning. There must have been fatigue from the driver coming from Abuja, and the driver may have slept off and in the process had a collision with the truck.
“They were burnt and we were able to contact the deceased relations because we were able to get the vehicle manifest.”
The FRSC official, who revealed that occupants of the truck – the driver and his motor boy – escaped unhurt, advised drivers to guide against fatigue, urging them to stop and relax intermittently when on a long journey.
