President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday hosted Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a meeting widely believed to be linked to ongoing efforts to secure the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The meeting comes on the heels of Otti’s recent visit to Kanu at the Sokoto prison, where the separatist leader is serving his sentence. The visit formed part of a broader strategy involving legal and political actors working toward a possible resolution of the long-running case.

Otti had travelled to Sokoto in the company of Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna; and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials of the Sokoto State Government were also present during the engagement.

Since assuming office, Otti has repeatedly emphasised that addressing Kanu’s case remains a priority for his administration. After the prison visit, the governor restated his commitment to pursuing all lawful avenues to secure the IPOB leader’s release.

“While Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” Otti said through his media aide.

Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is being interpreted as another step in the governor’s ongoing political and legal consultations, aimed at advancing dialogue at the federal level.

Although details of the discussions were not made public, political observers say the engagement highlights sustained high-level attention to a matter that has remained a major point of legal, political, and security debate in Nigeria.

As efforts continue, many are watching how state initiatives, federal involvement, and judicial processes may intersect in determining the eventual outcome of Kanu’s case.
