The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a suspected notorious car thief believed to be linked to a series of vehicle thefts across the state.
This was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday in Port Harcourt by the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko.
According to Iringe-Koko, the suspect was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on May 5 along Abacha Road in Port Harcourt. He was intercepted by police operatives while riding a bicycle, and a subsequent search led to the discovery of seven master keys in his possession.
“The suspect was immediately taken into custody for further interrogation,” she stated.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in multiple car snatching operations. He later led officers to his residence, where a red Hyundai Sonata with registration number EKY 531 GG—previously reported stolen—was recovered.
SP Iringe-Koko further disclosed that the suspect provided valuable intelligence, including the identities of other gang members operating in Delta, Edo, and Lagos states.
A comprehensive investigation is currently underway, and the police have assured the public that updates will be provided as the case develops.
