Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that the team is yet to receive the $100,000 reward and other incentives promised by the Federal Government following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade confirmed that neither the cash reward nor the other commitments have been fulfilled.
When asked directly whether the $100,000 had been delivered, she replied:
“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it will be paid. They have not paid — all the promises, we have not received anything.”
Ajibade captained Nigeria to a record-extending WAFCON title in Morocco, solidifying the Super Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football.
In recognition of their achievement, President Bola Tinubu awarded each player and member of the technical crew the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). He also pledged a reward of $100,000 and a three-bedroom house for each player.
During a reception at the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu commended the team for their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage,” calling their victory a historic milestone for the nation.
Despite the accolades, the players are still waiting for the fulfillment of those promises.
