The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six self-proclaimed pastors accused of orchestrating a fake miracle scam in Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola, were apprehended on February 16 during a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation carried out by police tactical teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Thursday in Akure. He said the suspects allegedly targeted unsuspecting members of the public by posing as religious leaders and staging fraudulent miracles.

According to him, the group exploited the faith and vulnerabilities of individuals by promising divine solutions to financial difficulties, health challenges, and other personal problems. He explained that the suspects allegedly defrauded victims through various forms of obtaining by false pretence.

“During interrogation, it was revealed that each member had a specific role designed to make their operations appear legitimate and convincing,” Jimoh said.

He added that preliminary investigations were ongoing to ascertain the total number of victims, determine the financial scale of the scam, and identify other possible collaborators who may still be at large.

The police spokesperson stated that the suspects remain in custody and would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command also cautioned residents to exercise vigilance and avoid falling victim to individuals who use religion, spirituality, or promises of miracles as a cover for criminal activities. Jimoh urged the public to verify claims, be wary of suspicious financial demands, and report dubious gatherings to the nearest police station.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State through sustained intelligence gathering, community partnership, and strategic operations.
