Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, will officially join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, the state chairman of the party, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, announced on Monday.
Maikatako disclosed that the governor would be formally received into the party by Vice President Kashim Shettima. According to him, Lawal will defect alongside members of his cabinet and key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Addressing APC stakeholders in Gusau, the state capital, Maikatako described the governor’s defection as a return to familiar political ground.
“We all know that Zamfara has long been one of the APC’s stronghold states, where the defected governor was once a bona fide member,” he said.
He added that Lawal’s decision to rejoin the APC followed his conviction that the party remains his preferred political platform.
“Now he has decided to return home, having been satisfied that the APC remains his second choice after the one he left for obvious reasons,” Maikatako stated.
The APC chairman urged party members across the 147 wards in the state to turn out en masse to welcome the Vice President and his entourage, stressing the need for unity within the party.
He called on members to put aside factional differences, noting that the APC family shares a common vision of advancing Zamfara State and Nigeria.
“We are all politically one family that has many things in common, especially in our goal of making Zamfara and Nigeria great again,” he said.
In his remarks, former APC State Chairman, Lawal M. Liman, also appealed to party faithful across the state to mobilize support at ward and local government levels, emphasizing that the APC remains united in its pursuit of collective success.
