Barely weeks after a tragic road accident in Gombe State claimed the lives of at least seven journalists and media workers, another crash involving journalists occurred on Friday in Bauchi State, leaving several reporters injured.

The accident happened along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area while journalists were returning from covering a project commissioning event organized by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Yelwan Duguri.

Among those injured was the Bauchi State Correspondent of The Guardian newspaper, Mr. Rauf Oyewole. Other affected journalists were from Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Arise TV and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Eyewitnesses said the journalists’ vehicle was involved in a crash while en route from the event. The injured media workers were initially given first aid at Yelwan Duguri Hospital before being transferred to the Bauchi General Hospital for further medical treatment.

The journalists had been covering an NEDC project commissioning tour led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu. The delegation also included the Chairman and Managing Director of the NEDC, the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State and other senior government officials.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of journalists on official assignments, particularly following the recent fatal accident involving media workers in Gombe State.
