The Nigerian Senate has approved a bill that mandates the revocation of international passports belonging to Nigerians convicted of crimes overseas for a period of at least 10 years.
Sponsored by Senator Abubakar Bello, the legislation seeks to safeguard Nigeria’s global image and discourage criminal activities that damage the nation’s reputation abroad.
Lawmakers said the measure would serve as both a punitive and deterrent step, helping to restore confidence in the Nigerian passport and reaffirm the country’s dedication to accountability and responsible citizenship..
