…Says Fubara not telling the truth on the state’s political crisis

The factional chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewoh, said on Thursday that his group had aligned with Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Ewoh accused Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misleading the PDP by claiming he could wrest political control of the state from Wike before later abandoning the party.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Ewoh said Fubara failed to pursue reconciliation after the lifting of emergency rule in the state, instead boasting that President Tinubu would compel lawmakers to pass the budget and force Wike to back his re-election bid.

Ewoh called on Fubara to disclose the full terms of a peace agreement allegedly brokered by President Tinubu before emergency rule was lifted.

“The mandate Governor Fubara holds belongs to the people of Rivers State, and they deserve to know the agreements entered into on their behalf,” Ewoh said.

Tracing the crisis, Ewoh said Fubara fell out with the Rivers State House of Assembly within his first year in office, a dispute that culminated in the bombing of the assembly complex and presidential intervention.

He said the collapse of an initial peace deal led to prolonged political instability and the declaration of emergency rule in March 2025.

Ewoh said a second agreement reached during the emergency period was neither documented nor disclosed, adding that its collapse preceded Fubara’s defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025.

He said the PDP had challenged the emergency declaration at the Supreme Court to protect its mandate, only for the governor to later defect to the APC.

Ewoh also criticised Fubara’s absence from the PDP National Convention in Ibadan in November 2025, despite overseeing preparations for the event.

He said the PDP Rivers caretaker committee constituted in December 2025 was validly formed by the party’s national leadership.

Ewoh urged Fubara to publicly address Rivers’ residents on all agreements reached during the peace process, saying transparency was essential ahead of the 2027 elections.
