Rivers State has announced the appointment of new members to the Civil Service Commission and the Local Government Service Commission. His Excellency, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ebok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, the Administrator of Rivers State, approved the appointments, which are effective as of April 7, 2025.

The latest appointments came barely five hours after the administrator announced appointments of administrators for the 23 local government councils and others, despite a suit by civil society groups in the state.

In the Civil Service Commission, Dr. Livinus Bariki was appointed as the new chairman, with Amb. Lot Peter Egopija, Mrs. Maeve Ere Bestman, Mrs. Joy Obiaju, and Mrs. Charity Lloyd Harry joined as members.

For the Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Israel N. Amadi was named the chairman, with Mr. Linus Nwandem, Lady Christabel Ego George Didia, Dr. Tonye Willie D. Pepple, Barr. Richard Ewoh, Rear Adm. Emmanuel Ofik (Rtd), and Dr. Sammy Apiafi fill the roles of members.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, confirmed the appointments in an official statement released earlier on Wednesday.

She said the appointments are part of ongoing efforts by the Rivers State government to strengthen the state’s governance framework and improve the efficiency of both the civil service and local government sectors.

The new appointments bring a diverse range of expertise to these crucial institutions.
