Embattled Rivers State Governor, Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has rallied the people of the state to rise to its defence, vowing his readiness to lead the charge against the perceived enemies of the state.
Speaking after his latest legal and political failures in the battle with his former godfather, Nyesom Wike, the governor said, “No matter how we’ve been fooled in this State, it has gotten to a point when the people have to decide to take their destinies in their hands.”
He further said, “In as much as I don’t subscribe to violence when the time comes for us to take a decision, I will lead the course for that decision.”
The outburst came amidst growing indications that he could face impeachment from the state assembly after he lost his battle to control the State House of Assembly through his minority ‘speaker’ Hon Victor Oko-Jumbo, and three others, at the Supreme Court on Friday.
Consequently, the Rt Hon Martins Amaehule-led assembly, fired a 48-hour ultimatum to the governor to represent the 2025 budget passed by the now delegimitised Oko-Jumbo led house.
Fubara, who spoke at the inauguration of the reconstructed Governor House Staff Quarters in Port Harcourt, boasted that he is not afraid of losing his position, while touting his achievements in the face of ongoing opposition to his administration.
“Let me say it again: I am not scared of anything. The worst that will happen is for me to leave the office. Am I leaving the earth? Is it going to stop me from existing?
The Governor pledged to lead with honour, respect, and integrity, stating that he would not back down from ensuring the state’s well-being, warning that his administration would not tolerate violence.
Fubara also expressed his unwavering commitment to Rivers’ future, noting that his strength comes from God and the support of the people.
He quoted Philippians 3:18-19 to highlight the importance of pursuing truth and justice, emphasizing that his focus is on creating a lasting legacy for future generations. “For as I have often told you before, and now, I tell you again, even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, and their god is in their stomach, and their glory is in their shame, their mind is set on earthly things only.”
“Just like the word said, we are not after our stomach, we are after the joy of our people, that at the end of the day, what will count for us is the lives that we have touched genuinely, the legacy we leave that will speak for us, that will open doors for our children, the generations yet u
