The Nigeria Police Force has removed Benjamin Hundeyin from his position as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), barely six months after he was appointed to the role.

Sources within the force confirmed that the decision was approved on Thursday, shortly after Tunji Disu assumed office as the new Inspector-General of Police.

Disu officially took over the leadership of the police on Wednesday following the removal of the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

A senior police source disclosed that the development forms part of routine administrative adjustments that often accompany the appointment of a new police chief.

According to the source, Hundeyin’s removal is among the typical changes carried out to allow a new Inspector-General to reorganize the force’s leadership structure.

As of the time of filing this report, the police authorities have yet to announce a replacement for the Force Public Relations Officer.

Hundeyin was appointed the force spokesperson by Egbetokun and had served in several strategic roles within the police before his latest assignment.

Before becoming FPRO, he served as the Police Public Relations Officer at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos. He also participated in international peacekeeping operations as part of the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020.

The Lagos-born police officer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
