The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded a major security breakthrough with the arrest of a notorious cattle rustler and kidnap kingpin, Abashe Gizo, in a targeted raid on his hideout at Ruwan Baka village, Doma Local Government Area.

Gizo, who had been on the police wanted list for a long time due to his involvement in multiple kidnapping and cattle rustling operations, was captured by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following a high-level intelligence-led operation.

Police spokesperson, DSP Rahman Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement released Sunday morning. He disclosed that during interrogation, Gizo confessed to a series of crimes and led investigators to his hideout, where an AK-49 rifle (Breach No. 453144) and a loaded magazine were recovered.

“The suspect, who has been evading arrest for several months, finally met his waterloo after operatives tracked him down based on credible intelligence. His capture is a major win in our fight against organised crime,” the statement read.

The arrest of Gizo came just days after the police nabbed another key suspect, Fatima Salisu, who was arrested for allegedly transporting ammunition from Doma to Katsina State for armed criminal groups. Her apprehension was made possible by a swift intelligence tip-off.

Acting on directives from Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima J. Mohammed, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a rapid operation that led to the seizure of 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition from Salisu.

The police command has assured residents of Nasarawa State of its continued efforts to flush out criminal elements from the region and has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
