The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 48-year-old man, Emmanuel George, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Port Harcourt.
Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement on Monday, said the incident happened on September 6 at Mini Orlu, off Ada-George Road. The victim, who was staying with her aunt, was attacked while returning from an errand.
Iringe-Koko said George lured the girl into a stationary tricycle, tied her hands, covered her mouth, and assaulted her before fleeing. Operatives attached to the CP Strike Force later rescued the child and took her to the Police Hospital for medical care.
The suspect was arrested the same day, around 10 p.m., following intelligence efforts. A rope, a wrap of food, and the tricycle were recovered as exhibits.
The police said George confessed to the crime during interrogation and remains in custody while investigations continue.
Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured that the command would ensure justice is served and urged parents to be vigilant in protecting their children.
