In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said operatives of the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call at about 3:00 p.m. after the attack was reported.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned violence within marriage, stressing that unions should be founded on mutual respect, patience, and understanding.

“Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,” Ado said.

He advised couples and intending spouses to seek counselling before and during marriage, adopt peaceful dialogue and anger management in resolving conflicts, and involve parents, religious leaders, or trusted mediators when disputes escalate.

The police also called on community leaders, families, and other stakeholders to intensify awareness among youths on healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and the consequences of domestic violence.
