Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have thwarted a cult initiation ceremony in Nawfia, located in the Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

The operation, which was carried out on June 15 based on intelligence reports, led to the arrest of six individuals and the recovery of a pump-action gun, two live cartridges, a Lexus SUV, and various other items believed to be used for cult activities.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development. He said, “At about 9:30 am on June 15, 2025, police operatives acting on credible intelligence disrupted a cult initiation gathering at Nawfia. During the operation, six suspects were apprehended and several incriminating items recovered.”

Recovered items include a Jojef pump-action firearm, ammunition, a gold-colored Lexus SUV with registration number ATN 202 AE, two cutlasses, two scissors, a cap bearing the insignia of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, charms, suspected hard drugs, and other illicit materials.

The arrested suspects were identified as Nwadike Chibuike, Anierobi Precious, Raphael Ebube, Ezechi Benjamin, Okafor Chidera, and Chiema Okoye, all males between the ages of 20 and 30.

Ikenga stated that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations. Once concluded, the case will be forwarded to court for prosecution.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to fighting cultism and its links to other violent crimes in the state, emphasizing that efforts to curb such activities remain a top priority.
