The Delta State Police Command has dismantled a suspected kidnap syndicate and rescued three abducted victims during a coordinated security operation in a forest near Issele-Uku.
The operation followed a kidnapping report received by the Issele-Uku Division on March 16, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Aderemi Badiru, in collaboration with the military, local vigilante groups, and hunters, swiftly mobilised a search-and-rescue mission.
“Sequel to the report, the DPO, in collaboration with the military, local vigilante groups, and hunters, launched a coordinated operation, combing identified hideouts within the surrounding bush,” Edafe stated.
He explained that the operation led to a fierce exchange of gunfire between security operatives and members of the syndicate.
“During the encounter, one of the suspects was fatally wounded, while the three victims were rescued unharmed and have since been safely reunited with their families,” he said.
Edafe further disclosed that continued combing of the forest resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect, Ahmadu Hassan, from Kange Village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, who sustained gunshot injuries during the operation.
Security operatives also recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with four rounds of live ammunition from the scene.
According to the police spokesman, the suspect who was fatally injured during the exchange of fire was later confirmed dead, and his remains have been deposited in a mortuary. The injured suspect is currently receiving treatment under police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, commended the gallantry and synergy displayed by the operatives and partner security outfits, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state.
He also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime.
