The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Joseph Okon Eren, in connection with the death of his neighbour, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, following a violent altercation in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Timfon John, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday. She said the incident occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, around 6:00 p.m., after both men engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a fight.
“During the scuffle, the duo resorted to using machetes. The youth president of the community, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, 34, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead,” the statement read.
John added that operatives acted on a report from the village head and recovered a machete believed to have been used in the clash. The suspect, Eren, who hails from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA but resides in the community, is currently in custody.
She further disclosed that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue, while a discreet investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
