The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and involvement in illicit drug activities in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Ifeanyi Ibeabuchi, 39; Abdullahi Shaibu, 26; and Obah Chima, 18. One of the suspects is said to be a motel owner. They were apprehended on Monday during a police operation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acted on credible intelligence and stormed a motel in Uke where the arrests were made in the late hours of February 9, 2026.
Ikenga disclosed that during a search of the premises, officers recovered one Jojef pump-action gun with breach number 21SA-0724 loaded with three live cartridges.
He added that one of the suspects, Ibeabuchi, allegedly confessed to the crime, while further investigations led to the arrest of the other two suspects. Substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, crystal methamphetamine, colos, and mkpuru-mmiri were also recovered.
The command reiterated its commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against criminal elements in the state and urged members of the public to provide useful information to support policing efforts. Ikenga noted that further updates would be communicated as investigations continue.
In December 2025, the Anambra State Police Command also arrested a 26-year-old armed robbery suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, during an operation at Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area. The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, after sustaining injuries during the operation, and a locally made Beretta pistol along with 11 live rounds of ammunition was recovered from him.
