The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected car snatcher, identified as Iruo Young, in connection with a viral video showing the theft of a Toyota Avalon at gunpoint in the Choba area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
According to Iringe-Koko, the suspect was apprehended following a manhunt launched by operatives after the viral video showed armed men intercepting and robbing a car owner.
“The incident, which occurred around 3:00 p.m., involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon at gunpoint,” she said. “Through intelligence-led policing and technical support, operatives of the command successfully arrested one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young, 42, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.”
She added that during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and provided useful information about his role in the robbery.
Iringe-Koko further stated that efforts were ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang and to recover both the stolen vehicle and the firearms used in the operation.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism.
He also expressed appreciation to residents for providing credible information that led to the arrest, assuring the public that criminals would find no haven in Rivers State.
