The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Stanley Chibuike, for allegedly concealing a pistol inside a loaf of bread in Asaba, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday, saying the suspect was intercepted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad during a routine stop-and-search operation at Koka Roundabout on November 6, 2025.

According to Edafe, the officers became suspicious of Chibuike’s behaviour and conducted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol hidden inside the loaf of bread. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody, while the weapon was secured as an exhibit.

He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s possible involvement in recent armed robbery and kidnapping cases within Asaba and neighbouring communities.

Commending the officers for their vigilance, the Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, described the incident as evidence of the command’s intelligence-driven operations. He urged residents to remain alert and share credible information with the police, assuring that all reports would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
