Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, Special Squad I, have arrested a 32-year-old man, Chigozie Michael Clement, for allegedly abducting a 7-year-old boy in Lagos.

The incident occurred on August 25, 2025, after the child’s father reported to the Alapere Police Division that his son had been taken without permission by a painter hired to work for the family.

Shortly after the abduction, the suspect reportedly contacted the boy’s mother and demanded a ransom of N7 million for his release.

The case was swiftly transferred to the Special Squad I for discreet investigation. Acting on intelligence, detectives traced Clement to the Ijegun area of Lagos on August 27, 2025, where he was arrested. The child was rescued unharmed from a locked room where he had been held captive.

Police sources confirmed that the boy has since been reunited with his family.

During interrogation, Clement confessed to the crime, stating that he resorted to kidnapping in a desperate attempt to raise money to support his family.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect had any accomplices. He added that the suspect would be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to deploying all available resources to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents across the state.
