The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, James Osita, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl in the Asio community, Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed on Monday in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the incident occurred on Thursday in the agrarian community.
According to the statement, a report was lodged at the police station on February 5, 2026, by a man identified as Uchena, who alleged that the minor was sexually abused earlier that day at about 4:00 p.m. in Asio, Ile Oluji.
Jimoh said the victim was promptly rescued and taken for medical examination, while the suspect was immediately apprehended and taken into custody. He added that the suspect made useful statements and reportedly confessed to committing the offence.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim alleged the suspect had carried out similar acts against her on several previous occasions.
The police spokesperson said the investigation was ongoing and that the suspect would be charged in court upon its conclusion.
The command commended members of the public for their timely reporting of crimes and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to the police for swift intervention.
