The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 58-year-old school principal, Bashir Musa, over the alleged theft of computers and solar power equipment from a school laboratory in Dutsi Local Government Area of the state.
Musa was apprehended on Monday following a report of vandalism, breaking, and theft at the school. Police said the incident was reported to the Dutsi Divisional Police Headquarters in the early hours of January 19, 2026.
According to the police, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where a handsaw believed to have been used in carrying out the crime was recovered. Further investigations reportedly led officers to the residence of the principal.
A search of the suspect’s home allegedly resulted in the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from the school laboratory. The items include four solar panels, one solar battery, five computer monitors, three Central Processing Units (CPUs), one printing machine, and two clippers.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the principal was taken into custody for questioning. He disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the offence during interrogation.
Aliyu added that investigations are ongoing, with efforts being intensified to recover other items believed to be missing from the school.
