The Edo State Police Command has apprehended Ovbokhan Igbinovia Kelvin, the recently deposed spiritual leader (Ohen) of Okhoromi community in Oredo Local Government Area, along with four other suspects, over the possession of a suspected human skull and various weapons.
The arrested individuals include Osarodion Omoregie, 4, Charles Otasowei, 55, Edwin Igbinovia, 45, and Osagie Igbinovia, 44.
Recall that the Ohen was removed from office by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, on May 15, 2025, following public outcry from community members over allegations of land grabbing and unlawful demolition of property.
In a statement released in Benin City on Sunday, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrests. He noted that the operation was carried out on Saturday, May 17, 2025, by the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad in collaboration with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
Recovered from the spiritualist’s premises were suspected human skulls, two AK-47 rifles with serial numbers TH4782 and 6683, two locally made single-barrel shotguns, three empty AK-47 magazines, one OFM magazine, and eleven rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Yamu added that investigations are ongoing to locate additional weapons and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured the public that the Command remains committed to eradicating crime and ensuring safety across the state.
