The Lagos State Police Command have arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with a N20 million threat-to-life and ransom demand case.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

According to him, the arrest was the result of a carefully planned sting operation carried out by police operatives following a complaint from the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area over a threat to life and ransom demand.

“Acting on the information, operatives were immediately deployed to track and apprehend the suspect,” Tijani said.

He explained that the suspect was apprehended on March 27 while attempting to collect the ransom during the decoy operation.

Items recovered from the suspect include an HP laptop and a flash drive, both of which are currently undergoing forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.

The police commissioner further revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted involvement in a previous attempted burglary at a commercial bank.

Tijani noted that the arrest is part of the command’s intensified efforts to tackle kidnapping, extortion, and other violent crimes across Lagos State.

He added that investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices and determine the full extent of the suspect’s criminal activities, assuring that the suspect would be prosecuted upon conclusion of the investigation.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning criminal elements to desist from acts capable of endangering public safety, as the police continue intelligence-driven operations across the state.
