The Oyo State Police Command has arrested ten suspected armed robbers in the Genesis Hotel area of Challenge, Ibadan, recovering stolen items valued at about ₦100 million.
The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to the statement, the suspects—Mukaila Omorayo (48), Adekanbi Adesola (39), Ahmed Oderinlo (38), Samuel Omoseyin (53), Ramon Saheed (52), Monilola Ajayi (58), Akanbi Bisi (51), Wasilat Abdullahi (48), Bolaji Tanimola (51), and Adeola Oyesina (51)—were apprehended following weeks of surveillance based on credible intelligence.
Ayanlade said operatives stormed the gang’s hideout within the Genesis Hotel area, leading to the arrest of the suspects, who are believed to be part of a notorious syndicate known for hijacking containers at gunpoint and diverting goods across state lines.
Items recovered from the suspects include 40 air conditioners, 10 washing machines, an electric motorcycle, assorted creams, seven cutting machines, 15 packs of LED lights, 25 packs of furniture gum, trailer spare parts, women’s hair products, wigs, chin chin, as well as furniture and painters’ materials.
He added that the suspects had confessed to their involvement in the crimes and were cooperating with investigators, with efforts ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, commended the operatives for their professionalism and lauded members of the public for providing useful information that aided the operation.
Abimbola also urged hotel operators to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities, noting that investigations revealed criminals often use hotels as operational bases. Management of the hotel linked to the case has been invited for questioning.
He assured that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while calling on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
