Amid renewed efforts by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to bring him back into its fold, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Wednesday made a significant appearance at the launch of two political books authored by veteran journalist and political strategist, Ike Abonyi.
The event, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, featured the unveiling of Wadata Wonders: Memoirs of a Partisan Journalist—named after the PDP national secretariat—and another political work by Abonyi, who previously served as Media Adviser to two PDP National Chairmen.
Obi’s presence at the event, which drew a high-profile crowd of PDP leaders and stakeholders, comes just days after the party publicly confirmed it was actively seeking his return ahead of the 2027 general elections. Although he made no public comment on the party’s overtures, his attendance has reignited speculation about a potential political realignment.
The event was chaired by economist and 2023 PDP presidential aspirant, Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, with Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Senator Bala Mohammed, named as Chief Book Presenter—represented by the Forum’s Director General, Emmanuel Agbo.
Former Minister of Information and ex-President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, delivered the keynote address titled “How Did We Get Here?”
Abonyi, a former Group Political Editor at THISDAY and the pioneer Deputy Managing Director of New Telegraph, chronicles in Wadata Wonders his insider experiences within the PDP during his over four-year tenure as a media strategist at the top levels of the party.
