Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, including Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Peter Mbah of Enugu, of betrayal and breaching internal agreements aimed at resolving the party’s post-election crisis.
In a press statement, Wike said the PDP has been plagued by “dishonesty and lack of trust” since the 2023 elections, warning that continued violations of party agreements threaten its survival.
“To stem this ugly trend, we made efforts to enthrone fidelity to agreements,” Wike said, referencing a G5 meeting in Lagos and an expanded reconciliation session in Abuja hosted by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
At the Abuja meeting, Wike said all sides agreed that Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the party’s National Secretary, all legal disputes in Rivers State would be withdrawn, and no member would violate these terms. However, he claims Makinde and Mbah disregarded these resolutions by pushing for Ude Okoye as Secretary and orchestrating unauthorised actions through the National Secretariat.
“Even before the reconciliation committee began work, the gentleman’s agreement was already being violated,” Wike stated. “This is distasteful, provocative, and annoying.”
He pointed to the recent cancellation of a PDP zonal congress in Jos as evidence of the chaos, blaming it on a letter signed by the wrong official. “INEC refused to attend because Senator Anyanwu, the recognised signatory, was excluded,” he said.
Declaring an end to his involvement in peace efforts, Wike added: “I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I will fight on until justice is attained.”
Despite mounting pressure, Wike insisted he remains loyal to the PDP, emphasising his decades-long service. “None of these persons have done anything close to what I have done to sustain this party,” he said.
