The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), on Tuesday issued a strong warning to the international community, alleging that Nigeria’s democracy is “under threat” and urging world powers — including the United States — to intervene.

Speaking at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, Turaki accused a serving minister in the Federal Government of leading “armed thugs,” a situation he described as alarming and deserving of urgent global attention. He specifically called on U.S. President Donald Trump and other Western nations to “come and save Nigeria.”

“What is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians; President Trump should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat,” Turaki said.

He further appealed to advanced democracies around the world to intervene, expressing shock that a sitting minister could allegedly be found supporting armed groups.

“I cannot understand how a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be leading thugs — armed thugs,” he added.

Turaki maintained that PDP officials remain determined to defend their mandate despite what he described as growing intimidation and threats.

“We are willing to lay down our lives to protect our office, to protect our democracy, to protect our mandate,” he declared. “Nigerians, you are watching what is happening. The international community, you’re seeing the threat Nigerian democracy is under. Come and save us! Come and save us!”
