IG Kayode Egbetokun: Assures Election Hitch-free, Credible Collation
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has further assured voters and political actors in the ongoing Ondo State Governorship election that his men would ensure the highest standard of security throughout the electoral process and even afterwards.
The IGP gave the assurances after deploying the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the ongoing Ondo State Election, DIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, to conduct inspections around polling units and collation centres to ensure a hitch-free process.
This was disclosed on Saturday evening by the Force Headquarters Abuja, which revealed that the move was to ensure “the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.”
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP, Ademuyiwa Adejobi, said the DIG ensured that all voting materials were accounted for and that the counting and collations processes were conducted in a free, fair and orderly manner.
He said, “The DIG further charged the officers deployed for election security to ensure a constant state of vigilance, restricting any unauthorized movement of persons in and out of the collation centres. Officers are to enforce strict safety protocols to prevent any potential disruptions or irregularities that could compromise the integrity of the elections.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to emplacing adequate security measures to ensure the electoral process is conducted free and fair.”
