A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died after she was knocked down and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.
The tragic incident occurred during a coordinated show-of-force drill, according to the corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, who confirmed the development on Saturday.
Describing the occurrence as a sad accident, Babawale said the corps had lost one of its personnel in the line of duty. “It is a very sad incident. We have lost her,” he stated.
Footage circulating on social media captured the moment the officer was struck by the patrol vehicle as it made a turn during the exercise. The vehicle reportedly came to a halt shortly after the impact, as colleagues and bystanders quickly moved to lift it and rescue her from underneath.
Emergency responders were said to have arrived promptly at the scene and evacuated the injured officer for medical attention. Despite efforts to save her life, she was later pronounced dead.
The corps has yet to provide further details surrounding the circumstances of the incident.
