The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 32-year-old commercial motorcyclist, identified as Richard, for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old stepdaughter, leaving her with severe health complications.

NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, said the suspect was arrested on Friday, November 14, after the victim’s mother reported the incident. She told officials that she returned home to find her daughter in distress and later discovered that she had been abused.

Investigations showed that the child had been staying with the suspect’s mother, and the assault allegedly occurred during one of his visits to the house. It was also gathered that the suspect had been consulting a herbalist over personal matters.

The victim’s mother explained that she had earlier left the marriage because of domestic violence but did not take her daughter along. When she later requested that the girl be returned to her, Richard allegedly assaulted the child on the same day he was supposed to bring her home. On receiving her daughter, she noticed a foul smell and discovered maggots coming from the girl’s private parts.

Osun NSCDC Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, said the suspect confessed, claiming he acted under the influence of alcohol after celebrating the purchase of a new motorcycle. He confirmed that the child has been taken to the hospital for urgent medical care.

Sotiyo warned that the Corps would ensure that anyone who preys on minors faces strict legal consequences, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to protecting children.
