Nigerians have taken to social media to celebrate President Bola Tinubu’s generous gesture towards the Super Falcons following their dramatic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
To mark Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, President Tinubu on Monday hosted the team at the Presidential Villa, conferring national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and the 11-member technical crew.
In addition, each player received a three-bedroom apartment and a cash reward of $100,000. Technical crew members were each awarded $50,000.
The announcement sparked scenes of joy at the Villa, with players dancing and chanting, “Na our papa be this o!”
Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) praised the President’s unprecedented gesture:
@OjubanireKehin2 wrote, “N150 million for each of the players! I’m happy for the team, especially the home-based ones. Thank you, Mr President!”
@FranklynGaga commented, “Highly commendable. Congratulations to our women. This is massive. Hope he fulfils it.”
@cryptostashed20 said, “This is great. These girls truly deserve it. In advanced countries, such support systems already exist.”
@karen_bae__ noted, “No president has ever done this. Some past promises were never fulfilled.”
@777numbers joked, “That’s huge from Mr President.”
@iamdavepolo added, “Wow! If true, this deserves commendation. Achievements like this should never go unnoticed. Kudos, Baba.”
While addressing the team, Tinubu praised their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage.” He admitted he couldn’t bear to watch the final live, fearing it might raise his blood pressure.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons claimed their 10th continental title with a stunning 3–2 comeback win over Morocco on Saturday, further cementing their dominance in African women’s football.
