The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has arrested a 29-year-old man in possession of 7,000 suspected Tramadol capsules.
In a statement released Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, said the suspect was apprehended on Saturday by NDLEA operatives from the Kiru Area Command. The arrest took place along the Zaria-Kano Road in the Kwanar Dangora area as the suspect traveled from Lagos with the illicit drugs.
According to the statement, the Tramadol capsules, weighing 4.1 kilograms, were carefully concealed inside a 20-litre jerrycan typically used for oil—an attempt the agency described as a failed smuggling tactic.
Muhammad-Maigatari described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the state. He noted the professionalism and vigilance of the officers in uncovering the concealed substances.
“This arrest highlights the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to dismantling the supply chain of illicit drugs and ensuring public safety,” he stated.
The NDLEA Commander in Kano State, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, also praised the operatives for their dedication and efficiency. He further acknowledged the continuous support and leadership of the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa.
“The NDLEA in Kano remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate drug abuse and trafficking. We deeply appreciate the ongoing support and cooperation from members of the public,” Idris-Ahmad added.
