The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Escravos, Delta State, destroyed two illegal crude oil refining sites on Friday in Oteghele Community, Obodo-Omadino, Warri South of the state.

The sites contained approximately 5,500 liters of stolen crude oil and 2,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), stored in one oven, nine dug-out pits, and 28 polythene sacks.

Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, commander of the base, stated that the operation was part of the ongoing effort to combat oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other economic sabotage activities, as well as to support Nigeria’s efforts to increase crude oil production.

The successful operation, carried out as part of Operation Delta Sanity II, was based on reliable intelligence.

Captain Okoloagu emphasized the commitment of the Forward Operating Base to uphold the directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, in eradicating illegal activities within the maritime environment.

This operation follows a similar one conducted two weeks ago by FOB Escravos personnel, who deactivated three illegal refining sites in the area, seizing around 3,700 liters of stolen crude oil and 2,600 liters of illegally refined AGO.
