Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated that he is not in a hurry to return to office amidst the ongoing political turmoil in the state.

Fubara made this known during a service of songs on Sunday in Port Harcourt, held in honor of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark.

In a widely circulated video from the event, Fubara remarked: “Can’t you see how better I look? Do you think I am interested in it? My spirit has already left that place long ago.”

“I want everybody to focus, there are some fights you don’t fight,” he said.

Rivers State has become the epicenter of an escalating political conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In response to the growing tension, President Bola Tinubu intervened in December 2023, mediating a peace agreement between the two factions.

Despite this effort, on March 18, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state legislature.

He subsequently appointed retired naval chief Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator, effectively dismantling the existing state government and placing the oil-rich region under federal control.
