A jealous middle-aged lover has reportedly killed his girlfriend just days before her wedding in Nsukka Area of Enugu State.
It was gathered that the man, who was simply identified as Ogbonna (AKA Mourinho), who hails from Igogoro Community in Igbo-Eze LGA of Enugu, is currently cooling his heels in the police cell.
He was arrested by the police in Enugu State for killing his ex-girlfriend, Chisom Ayogu, during a visit to his residence in Nsukka Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred on New Anglican Road, Nsukka, when Ayogu, who hailed from Amufie community in Igbo-Eze North LGA, reportedly visited Ogbonna to inform him about her upcoming wedding ceremony.
However, the visit turned violent following a disagreement between the former lovers, the cause of which remains unclear.
Eyewitnesses said the confrontation escalated, and Ogbonna allegedly assaulted Ayogu, leaving her unconscious before help could arrive.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told reporters that she was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect was apprehended by police shortly after the incident and is currently being interrogated.
As of the time of this report, the Enugu State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the matter. However, community members have expressed shock over the incident, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.
