The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has credited President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for making cancer treatment accessible within Nigeria.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah, on Thursday in Enugu, Idris said the federal government’s communication team was in the state to assess and report on the positive impacts of the President’s initiatives, as well as those of Governor Mbah.
He praised President Tinubu’s achievements, stating that the President’s performance gives the impression of someone already in a second term due to the rapid pace of reforms.
Idris also commended Governor Mbah’s efforts in transforming Enugu, describing the state as the “heart of the South-East.”
“We’ve seen firsthand what the governor has accomplished, building on the policies of his predecessor,” Idris said. “Our visit also aims to highlight the successes of President Tinubu’s policies across the region.”
He noted that Tinubu’s health sector reforms have made advanced cancer treatment available within Nigeria. “There are now six cancer treatment centers across the six geopolitical zones, including one in Enugu, equipped with world-class machines and staffed by trained professionals,” he explained.
“Today, anyone traveling abroad for cancer treatment is doing so by choice—not out of necessity—because the facilities and expertise are now available locally.”
Idris praised the President for appointing capable individuals who are driving progress in healthcare.
He also pointed to improved coordination among security agencies, attributing recent gains in national security to President Tinubu’s leadership. However, he emphasized that more work remains and assured that the administration is committed to tackling ongoing challenges.
