A 39-year-old man identified as Yusuf has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly trafficking girls from Yola to Lagos, from where they were transported to Ghana for prostitution.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the police said Yusuf admitted to working as a transporter within a larger human trafficking network. He reportedly collaborated with two women, identified as Happy and Elizabeth, who were responsible for recruiting and supplying the girls.

According to investigators, Yusuf’s role was to convey the victims — aged between 14 and 30 — from Adamawa to Lagos and hand them over to another female agent based in Lagos who facilitated their onward movement to Ghana.

“Happy once introduced me to the woman who normally collects the girls in Lagos and takes them to Ghana, but I don’t have direct contact with her,” the suspect told police during interrogation.

Yusuf also confessed that he received N50,000 for each girl he transported. He claimed to have briefly abandoned the trafficking business after losing his job and vehicles but returned to it “out of frustration.”

The suspect, who is married with three children, expressed remorse, stating he would never want his own daughter to become a victim of prostitution.
