The Benue State Police Command has reportedly apprehended a man, Torngusha Usuwe, for allegedly killing his mother during a domestic altercation in Gungul Village, Ukum Local Government Area.
According to counter-insurgency expert Makama Zagazola, who shared the report on X, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., during a heated argument between Usuwe and his mother.
Zagazola stated that the suspect allegedly struck his mother on the left side of her jaw with a stick, resulting in a severe fracture. The blow reportedly caused heavy bleeding from her mouth and ear.
She was rushed to Zege Nyion Clinic in Gungul for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead around 8:00 p.m. that evening.
Police detectives were dispatched to the scene following a report by Terwase Usuwe, a relative of the deceased. The victim’s body was documented, removed, and taken to the Gungul Memory Integrated Morgue for autopsy.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. Attempts to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, for comment were unsuccessful.
