An Oyo man has allegedly battered his elder brother to death with a rock after accusing him of shooting him in a dream.
Lateef Suleiman, 43, was arrested after the brutal attack in Sepeteri, in Oyo State.
Police said Suleiman woke up convinced his 52-year-old brother, Mustapha Amidu, had attacked him while he slept the previous night.
Instead of dismissing the nightmare, the suspect allegedly confronted his brother where he was sitting and smashed a heavy rock on his head.
According to the police, Suleiman fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The victim was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri but doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said the incident was reported by a resident of the area, who told officers that Suleiman had accused the deceased of shooting him in a dream before launching the attack.
Officers from the Ago-Amodu Divisional Headquarters visited the scene and the hospital as part of initial investigations before tracking down and arresting the suspect.
Police said Suleiman has since confessed and is cooperating with investigators.
The state Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a full probe.
Police said a “discreet and comprehensive investigation” was underway and assured that justice would be pursued.
