The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, disclosing that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect poured a flammable substance, suspected to be petrol, on his father before igniting it.

The incident occurred on April 1, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m. in the Magama Quarters of Kazaure town. According to the police, the victim was engulfed in flames, prompting a report from a resident, Lokon Malamai, which led to a swift response by security operatives.

Adam stated that the suspect was apprehended with fresh burn injuries on his forehead, arms, and toes, adding that he is currently facing charges of patricide.

The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment but later died from the injuries sustained in the attack.

Police authorities said the suspect remains in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be served. He noted that efforts were ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

The police also urged residents to adopt peaceful means in resolving disputes and to promptly report cases of domestic violence or conflict to the nearest police station.

The command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators, while calling on anyone with useful information to come forward.
