The Nigeria Police Force announced on Saturday that its National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has arrested 28-year-old Dauda Samuel for his alleged involvement in a police recruitment scam, cyber fraud, and identity theft.
According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the arrest was based on credible intelligence and multiple complaints from the public.
Reports indicated that the suspect had been impersonating Deputy Inspector-General of Police Frank Mba on Facebook, using this false identity to promote a fake police recruitment drive. He allegedly used this scheme to fraudulently collect money from unsuspecting individuals under the guise of offering them employment in the Nigeria Police Force.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Samuel created and managed fake Facebook profiles using DIG Frank Mba’s name and image without authorization.
He was recently arrested in Panda Village, Nasarawa State, and has confessed to the crime, providing useful information that is aiding further investigations.
Authorities are now working to identify potential accomplices and uncover additional digital evidence through forensic analysis.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, issued a stern warning to cybercriminals, urging them to cease their activities or face legal consequences. He also advised Nigerians to remain cautious of offers that appear too good to be true and to safeguard their digital engagements.
