A student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Miss Dorcas Omotosho, has tragically died following complications from an attempted abortion of a six-month pregnancy.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Al-Hassan Clinic and Maternity, a private facility located in the Sarkin Noma area of Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to sources, the 26-year-old sought the services of the clinic to terminate the advanced pregnancy. Though the procedure was reportedly completed, the medical staff failed to control post-abortion bleeding, which ultimately led to her death. “She bled to death,” the source confirmed.

A police officer who responded to the scene documented the incident before the deceased’s body was transferred to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) mortuary in Lokoja.

Authorities have since arrested the clinic’s owner, who is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Lokoja, pending further investigation.

When contacted, the Public Relations Director of Kogi State Polytechnic, Uredo Omale, said the institution was unaware of the incident, noting that students are currently on holiday.

Efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye, were unsuccessful as his phone line was inaccessible at the time of filing this report.
