In a shocking security breach, a suspected car thief reportedly broke into the Kano State Government House in the early hours of Monday and escaped with a Toyota Hilux belonging to the deputy governor’s convoy.
The intruder was said to have gained access through Gate 4 at about 5 a.m. and drove the vehicle out through the main gate without detection. CCTV footage later reviewed by security officials confirmed the route used in the escape.
Sources within the Government House disclosed that the deputy governor’s office area is only patrolled during working hours or when the deputy governor is on the premises, creating a potential lapse that may have been exploited by the suspect.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, has been interrogated and briefly detained as part of the ongoing investigation. “An investigation has been launched. The driver is being interrogated, while the CSO is analysing the CCTV footage,” a source said.
Security agencies have since been notified and provided with details of the stolen vehicle to assist in its recovery and the apprehension of the culprit.
Efforts to reach Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin Tofa, for comment were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered.
