Award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage has opened up about her past relationship choices, admitting that she made mistakes by dating men who were not as financially stable as she is.

In a recent candid conversation with British media personality Zeze Mills, the ‘Koroba’ crooner shared that she’s entering a new phase in her life—one where financial compatibility is no longer optional, but essential.

“I used to make the mistake of dating down,” Savage revealed.

“I would say things like, ‘I don’t care if you’re not making money, it’s about love.’ But now? No. I think I need someone who actually has money. I’m at that point in my life.”

Savage went on to explain that while love is still important to her, financial security has become a non-negotiable in her romantic relationships.

“Love is really nice,” she said, “but you can judge me if you want. I want to try dating someone wealthy. I’ve done the other way for so many years—let me now try something different.”

The singer, known for her empowering lyrics and chart-topping hits, emphasized that her shift in perspective comes from experience, not bitterness. Her remarks have sparked discussions online about the role of financial compatibility in relationships, especially for successful women.

Tiwa Savage was previously married to her former manager, Tunji Balogun, popularly known as Teebillz. The couple tied the knot in 2013 and welcomed a son together before officially divorcing in 2018, after unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation.

Now older, wiser, and more self-aware, Savage is unapologetically redefining her standards—and making it clear that her next relationship will come with not just love, but luxury.
