Suspected kidnappers on Sunday attacked the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary located in Ivhianokpodi, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The attack occurred around 7 pm while the priests and seminarians were engaged in evening prayers and benediction.
According to a statement from Reverend Father Peter Egielewa, the Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, the Rector of the seminary, Reverend Father Thomas Oyode, was abducted during the attack.
He, however, said the vice-rector and all seminarians were safely accounted for and have since been relocated to ensure their safety.
“As of now, there has been no communication from the abductors regarding Father Oyode, raising concerns about his well-being,” he said.
Established in 2006 by Most Reverend Gabriel Dunia, the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary has trained over 500 future priests.
