Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a trader and former ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Abubakar Sise.

Sise was taken from his residence in Boriya in the early hours of Thursday. Sources said the attackers invaded the compound around midnight, shooting repeatedly into the air to scare residents before gaining access to the house.

One of Sise’s sons reportedly encountered the gunmen as he returned home late at night. The assailants were said to have ordered him to call his father and open the door. They seized Sise once inside but left other members of the household unharmed.

By morning, residents found expended shells and some live bullets scattered around the compound, confirming that several shots were fired during the incident. Witnesses described the attack as brief but terrifying.

Local vigilante operatives were immediately alerted and have launched a search of nearby areas in an effort to track the kidnappers and rescue the victim.

The incident is the second kidnapping reported in the area in two months. On September 17, another businessman was abducted from his home in Shiya, a neighbouring community just a few kilometres away.

As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Alhaji Abubakar Sise remain unknown.
