The late former President Muhammadu Buhari will be buried on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. Funeral proceedings are scheduled to begin with the arrival of his remains at noon, followed by burial rites at 2:00 p.m.

The funeral details were confirmed by Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda during a press briefing on Monday. Governor Radda stated that the arrangements were made in close consultation with the Buhari family and close associates in London.

President Buhari passed away on Sunday in a London hospital after a prolonged illness, sparking nationwide mourning and tributes from all corners of Nigeria’s political, religious, and ethnic communities.

Describing the late President as a “national icon,” Governor Radda expressed profound grief over the loss and paid tribute to Buhari’s enduring legacy.

“We pray Almighty Allah grants his soul eternal rest and rewards him with Aljannatul Firdaus,” the governor said.

“On behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, we offer our deepest condolences to the Buhari family, to all Nigerians, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on this great national loss. May Allah grant us all the strength to bear it.”

He added that the Katsina State Government, in coordination with federal authorities and the Buhari family, is committed to ensuring a dignified and befitting farewell for the former Head of State.

Muhammadu Buhari first led Nigeria as a military ruler from 1983 to 1985 before returning as a civilian President in 2015. He served two terms, concluding his presidency in 2023. Known for his austere lifestyle, firm leadership, and anti-corruption crusade, Buhari was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics for over four decades.

The final rites are expected to draw attendance from top government officials, foreign diplomats, political leaders, and dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.
